Razia in the HOUSE!19thMarch

I know this isn't exactly about MagidahWear specifically, but as the President and a belly dancer, I have to tell you about an amazing workshop and show that I am putting together on March 28th with Razia.
Razia is a long time friend and colleague who has been spending more and more time in London and was accepted into an International Professional Dance program that is run by Hossam and Serena Ramzy. For those of you who don't know who they are, the Ramzy's are a dancer/musician team and Hossam Ramzy is one of the best selling Arabic tabla players in the world. The WORLD.
Razia is in town for her first workshop in Portland and will be sharing with us what she has learned directly from the master about how to decipher, interpret and translate Arabic melody lines into belly dance. What I love best about this art form is that when you see a dancer perform, you are getting a peek inside herself.
Belly dance is about showing the audience what you hear and feel in the music. I have been to many dance performances in other genres and wondered if the performers were hearing the same thing I was. Not so with belly dance. It is absolutely linked to what the music is doing and if you don't understand the structure of the music and melody lines, you can't create the dance in its most expressive and beautiful forms.
But I digress. Razia will be explaining how Arabic melodies and instrumentation drive the dance, and I am so excited because it will be a perfect complement to some work I have done with another amazing musical master, Souhail Kaspar. With Souhail, we focused on the rhythms and talked about instrumentation, but now I feel like I have the chance to bring everything full circle and take my dancing to the next level. Want to join me?
Come to Razia's Workshop in Portland on Saturday, March 28th and then join us for a fantastic evening show that night with live music by Al-Arwah!
